coldcut is a high-speed ESMTP scanner. It connects to a list of servers read from stdin sends some SMTP commands and stores the answers. The results will be written in an easy to parse format to stdout. Other messages are send to stderr. If you use the '-O' switch to python coldcut is much less chatty.
By using the excellent medusa framework coldcut can scan several hundred servers per minute ... if you feed IP addresses to is. If you feed hostnames the DNS lookups will slow down coldcut to a crawl. Better use a specialized tool to look convert hostnames to IP addresses before running coldcut.
coldcut is usable but not comfortable. It is meant to be used in conjunction with a lot DNS tools ans shell scripting.
