overview
airconf is a tool for configuring the the Access Control
Lists in several Apple Airport Base Stations at once. Today
it supports only Base Station 1 (Graphite) based on Karl
Bridge. Base Station 2 (White) is a completely different
beast and based on VxWorks.
This means you can have a
central file with all the MAC addresses which should be
allowed on your wireless network and using a cronjob or a
makefile you can keep the ACLs in your Airport Bases up do
date with minimum hassle.
airconf is also a Python
framework for detecting Apple Airport Base Stations (White and
Graphite), reading, printing and changing their
configurtation (only Graphite).
airconf needs pysnmp. The
documentation failed to mention that.
status
airconf is used in production but could need some polish. The
python library for accessing the Bases configuration is
incomplete.

notes
- This tool builds on work by Bill Fenner, Jonathan Sevy
and Rop Gonggrijp.
- airconf was tested with Airport Firmware V3.64
- Freebase has
some good Documentation.
- Bill
Fenners notes were the first Resource on Airbase hacking.
- The Config
MIB is explained in nice diagrams by Jonathan Sevy.
- The checksum algorithm outlined by Fenner and Sevy
didn't work for me.
